Its always good to keep a backup cord in your vehicle. Standard power cord plugs into 12V cigarette lighter. For models:

I travel a lot with my radar detector and I have accidentally left my power cord in rental cars, not just once but twice now. Replacing the newer SmartCords can start to get expensive after a bit, so I just decided to get a regular power cord to take with me in rental cars. This way I can leave my nice SmartCord in my car while I travel and take the easier to replace more affordable power cord with me in rental cars.

This coiled cord will work with many newer radar detectors and is a great alternative to the SmartCord if for some reason you do not want to use your original or need a affordable replacement.
