What is included with the iX?
The iX comes complete with a soft-sided travel case, NEW magnet "Sticky Cup" windshield mount feature, 12-volt SmartCord® and quick reference guide. If you would like a more permanent installation for your iX, check out the DirectWire SmartCord® or the more basic DirectWire kit for hardwired installations.
What is AutoLearn?
Autolearn uses the GPS feature to identify sources of false radar and memorizes location and frequency of each radar signal. Our AutoLearn software then compares signals received over time and eliminates audio alerts for non-police sources. The display will identify that a signal is present but no audio alert will be sounded. If a new source of radar or laser appears in the area you will receive a full audio and visual alert.
Will AutoLearn block out true police signals?
No. The sophisticated software will prevent automatically blocking out true police signals.
What is the Defender database?
Defender is a database of North American red light and fixed speed camera locations that can be updated weekly from our site. https://www.escortradar.com/store/software-subscription-accessories/
What is the USB port for?
The iX is web ready and the USB port can connect to a PC for software downloads and Defender updates.
What is Variable Speed Sensitivity?
We recognize if you are driving at slower rates of speed that you do not need full sensitivity. The iX is able to increase sensitivity as your traveling speed increases.
Can it be used overseas?
We do not monitor frequencies used overseas, but many customers travel abroad with their PASSPORT.
How do you Mark a location?
To mark a particular location, press the "MRK" button. The display will read: "Mark?" Press the "MRK" button again to assign a label to it. There are four (4) labels: Red Light, Speed Camera, Speed Trap and Other. To scroll through the labels, simply press the volume (+) or (-) buttons until you reach the desired label. Once you've selected the label, press the "MRK" button again to confirm.
How do you block a false alert?
To lockout a false alert, (X, K or Laser only) press the mute button three (3) times, (either on the detector or the SmartCord®) during the alert. Pressing the mute button the first time will silence the audio. Pressing it a second time will generate a prompt on the display that will read: "Lockout?" Press it a third time to confirm that you want to lock this signal out by location and frequency. A "Stored" message will be displayed.
What is Expert Mode?
Expert Mode will show you up to 8 radar signals at the same time and will show relative signal strength and associated Band of each signal.
Where are they illegal?
Radar detectors are completely legal to use in non-commercial vehicles in 49 states. Virginia and Washington D.C. are the only places in the United States that currently ban radar detectors. Radar detector use in commercial vehicles has been prohibited in the U.S. since 1995 and radar detectors are also illegal in most Canadian provinces. We do not track detector regulations in other countries.
What is the warranty period?
All our products ordered factory direct come with a full one-year factory warranty. We also offer an Extended Service Plan on select models that will provide two additional years of warranty for $29.95.
I have GPS in my car. Why do I need it in my detector?
The GPS feature is not used for navigation. The iX allows you to Mark locations of interest, Block false radar and laser alerts, tracks vehicle speed in real-time, and allows sensitivity based on the vehicle speed.
Why do I have to pay for updates?
Due to the increasing use of red light and fixed speed cameras in the US, the locations and operation status of these devices change all the time. This database is collected from a number of sources. There is a very small annual charge for customers that want to keep the Defender database current for camera threats. https://www.escortradar.com/store/software-subscription-accessories/
What is the Defender Database memory capability in the iX? Will it run out of space?
The iX has more than enough memory to hold all your locations as well as the camera locations used in the US.

I ordered this IX to replace my 9500 IX. I noticed right away the K bands were not alerting as much. This started me worrying if the IX was working. Then the Ka band went off coming to work, 3.25 miles later I passed the stationary trooper. Range fantastic, so I guess the filters for K band on doors is better. Who ever designed the mount my hats off, best mount in the business, no vibration, easy on and off. I did own the V1 and yes the mount was great but Escort out did themselves this time. Glad I bought the IX. At the present I own a Escort 360, IX and the 9500 IX. Thanks

This is a good detector in nearly every way. However, I had two incidents over the weekend that concerned me. The detector was showing a very weak Ka warning, one bar. However, the officer was visible and I could see him clearly with the radar gun. It wasn't until I was directly in front of him that the detector displayed full signal strength. The first time that happened I wrote it off. The second time I was unable to see the officer. The detector fluctuated between one and two bars of Ka band detected. It wasn't until I was literally 20 yards away from the radar gun that the detector started showing full bars. After that, I had enough. I think it is possible my detector was faulty so I have returned it and decided to upgrade to the Max 360.

One of the best out there

By SuperDave

from Louisville KY

Comments about New ESCORT IX:

This is the best detector I have owned and I have been using them for 25 years. Many people (and reviewers) don't understand the problems detectors face today with all of the in-vehicle and stationary falses out there that weren't there 20 years ago. By understanding and using the different modes and functions the unit has as described in the manual, you can use this detector to it's fullest potential. It's very difficult these days to pick out real police radar from the noise and this detector does a fabulous job. This is one of the best detectors out there that minimizes all of that and still provides exceptional usability and range. My last 3 detectors were Escort and they have never let me down.

Oops operator error...disregard my rant about the magnetic mount. After installing the detector correctly, the mount works quite well. Overall, I am very pleased with the detector.

ALL THAT TECHNOLOGY LITTLE IN RETURN

By DALTON

from MEMPHIS, TN

Comments about New ESCORT IX:

I purchased and IX less than 3 weeks ago, and I have already turned it back in. When I read the reviews and watched some of the videos neither one gave me a good indication this would be a good radar detector or not. I have been an Escort user for years, and in comparison to my Redline, well there is no comparison. The IX has horrible range on KA, K, most times the IX alerted 12 seconds after the Redline, and it varied from 8 to 12 seconds over the few weeks that I had it. On a positive note I did like the auto learn feature on the IX, it was easy to program, and also had it coupled with escort live, as I do my Redline. Bottom line is most people want plenty of warning time to slow down, range, on and off axis, but the IX does not perform to these standards. Put GPS, arrows on a Redline, and there would be no use for other radar detectors as it would be complete.

The Magnetic Mount is Pathetic!!!

By Jim

from Central Florida

Comments about New ESCORT IX:

The detector itself is probably a good to great device, but the magnetic mount is pitiful. The slightest bump or turn dislodges the detector from the magnet and leaves you to try to replace it while driving. Further, there appears to be no alternative except perhaps double velcro, since the detector has no slot for a conventional mount.

I will call customer service next week but I am not optimistic.

Nice Upgrade from the 9500i

By Foosa

from Boston, MA

Comments about New ESCORT IX:

My daily commute is back roads and secondary roads, the IX does very well and is very quiet compared to the 9500i I had. I took a trip from my home in NH to Danbury, CT and back. It was a joy to drive that trip and have less false alarms. I do agree that in certain lighting, the display on the detector is hard to read/see. I'm impressed with it and have gotten used to the "large" windshield mounts, but they are getting less and less an issue.

New Breed

By Oz

from Maryland

Comments about New ESCORT IX:

What's NOT to like about this detector. I'm upgrading from the 8500 X50 and its like night to day. The sophistication of this device is awesome. The ability to use an online database of user targets boggles my mind. The setup on my iPhone was easy and after using it, its a must on long trips. The detector itself is easy to setup and use. The alerts are clear and loud enough. When used with your iPhone the alerts interrupt streaming music to announce an alert. That's pretty cool. Okay its a little on the expensive side, ya think? but if it save me a speeding ticket its well worth it.
