What is included with the Max2?
The PASSPORT Max2 comes complete with a soft-sided travel case, NEW magnet "Sticky Cup" windshield mount feature, 12-volt SmartCord® and quick reference guide. If you would like a more permanent installation for your PASSPORT Max2, check out the DirectWire SmartCord® or the more basic DirectWire kit for hardwired installations.
Athermic windshields may impact performance.
"Athermic" windshields have a metallic coating which will severely impact a radar detector's performance. Most have small areas to mount detectors and GPS nav units. GPS signals will also be blocked by this coating.
What is AutoLearn?
Autolearn uses the GPS feature to identify sources of false radar and memorizes location and frequency of each radar signal. Our AutoLearn software then compares signals received over time and eliminates audio alerts for non-police sources. The display will identify that a signal is present but no audio alert will be sounded. If a new source of radar or laser appears in the area you will receive a full audio and visual alert.
Will AutoLearn block out true police signals?
No. The sophisticated software will prevent automatically blocking out true police signals.
What is the Defender database?
Defender is a database of North American red light and fixed speed camera locations that can be updated weekly from our site. https://www.escortradar.com/store/software-subscription-accessories/
What is the USB port for?
The PASSPORT Max2 is web ready and the USB port can connect to a PC for software downloads and Defender updates.
What is Variable Speed Sensitivity?
We recognize if you are driving at slower rates of speed that you do not need full sensitivity. The PASSPORT Max2 is able to increase sensitivity as your traveling speed increases.
Can it be used overseas?
We do not monitor frequencies used overseas, but many customers travel abroad with their PASSPORT.
How do you Mark a location?
To mark a particular location, press the "MRK" button. The display will read: "Mark?" Press the "MRK" button again to assign a label to it. There are four (4) labels: Red Light, Speed Camera, Speed Trap and Other. To scroll through the labels, simply press the volume (+) or (-) buttons until you reach the desired label. Once you've selected the label, press the "MRK" button again to confirm.
How do you block a false alert?
To lockout a false alert, (X, K or Laser only) press the mute button three (3) times, (either on the detector or the SmartCord®) during the alert. Pressing the mute button the first time will silence the audio. Pressing it a second time will generate a prompt on the display that will read: "Lockout?" Press it a third time to confirm that you want to lock this signal out by location and frequency. A "Stored" message will be displayed.
What is Expert Mode?
Expert Mode will show you up to 8 radar signals at the same time and will show relative signal strength and associated Band of each signal.
Where are they illegal?
Radar detectors are completely legal to use in non-commercial vehicles in 49 states. Virginia and Washington D.C. are the only places in the United States that currently ban radar detectors. Radar detector use in commercial vehicles has been prohibited in the U.S. since 1995 and radar detectors are also illegal in most Canadian provinces. We do not track detector regulations in other countries.
What is the warranty period?
All our products ordered factory direct come with a full one-year factory warranty. We also offer an Extended Service Plan on select models that will provide two additional years of warranty for $29.95.
I have GPS in my car. Why do I need it in my detector?
The GPS feature is not used for navigation. The PASSPORT Max2 allows you to Mark locations of interest, Block false radar and laser alerts, tracks vehicle speed in real-time, and allows sensitivity based on the vehicle speed.
Why do I have to pay for updates?
Due to the increasing use of red light and fixed speed cameras in the US, the locations and operation status of these devices change all the time. This database is collected from a number of sources. There is a very small annual charge for customers that want to keep the Defender database current for camera threats. https://www.escortradar.com/store/software-subscription-accessories/
What is the Defender Database memory capability in the Max2? Will it run out of space?
The PASSPORT Max2 has more than enough memory to hold all your locations as well as the camera locations used in the US.

I have had an opportunity to get a pre-launch Max2 and the Passport 5 weeks ago just before my vacation to Sturgis South Dakota and have driven over 7000 with these units.

The Max2 is by far one of the best radar detectors that I have ever tested and the Passport is my opinion the best entry model radar detector.

I was most impressed with the maturity of the Escort LIVE network these past 5 weeks and in fact one LIVE police alert saved my butt as two officers were running VASCAR just south of Flagstaff. As visual timing devices do not emit radar and/or laser I would had received an expensive speeding ticket if it wasn't for Escort LIVE.

BTW, the video below shows this encounter.

If you're interested in knowing why I rated the Max2 as the best check out my full review here on my blog: http://www.radardetector.org/passport-passport-max2-radar-detector-review/

On my second unit. First one would lock up on radar signals. I had the 9500IX before this unit and before this I had always bought Beltronix before Escort bough them out. The main reason I wanted to buy this was I liked the idea of having the speed limit on the detector with the over speed warning. Turns out you need to run the app with the detector and smartphone for this to work. To me this seems harder than it should be. Next problem is the detector over speed protection only works in miles per hour even when you adjust to kilometers per hour. The display is not very bright and the voice alerts are so quiet over the beeping that you can not distinguish what is being said unless you have the volume so high the beeping is ear piercing. This might be a harsh review but for the price of this unit I think you could do just as good with the lesser cost 9500IX.

Comments about Escort Passport Max2:

Though I will never understand why they discontinued the max series before the 360, but still sell the original passport as on 5/30/17, which the max series are better preforming. Although it's a discontinued model, it still preforms very well with 1.7. Just wished they still made updates for it to give it better filtering and performance. It is best suited for city and highway driving, but wooded areas can be a challenge.

Had a 9500ix as this was an upgrade sold my perfect ix for this piece of poorly made tech. I sent it back 3 times at my cost and they adjusted the antenna and other tweeks. Now the false alarms are non stop even where they are saved as alert sites. It doesn't stop beeping. My ix was much better at false alarms. Spent a lot of money on this to have escort tell me it's fine and now it's discontinued and pretty much worthless. No gift coupon or anything for inconvenience. I even got a speeding ticket while it was in for the 3rd time getting fixed. Garbage product. They won't admit it.

                  Comments about Escort Passport Max2:

Frankly, I've never had any of the problems described by some other users. And I commute through some of the most densely policed areas in the Nation.

The one problem I did encounter was with the "sticky-cup" mount that disintegrated — after 2 1/2 years use.

I have always used the device while connected to my smartphone — which I think is the best way to utlize the device. The combination of active and passive detection is the way forward for speedtrap avoidance, since no detector will inform of aerial surveillance, constantly repositioning patrol vehicles, intentional saturation of LASER, Ka, and K bands by police and highway road crews. That said, I also recommend running a road mapping app like WAZE alongside the ESCORT system for a maximum threat detection combination.

In all, the Max2 has served me well, and I would purchase another.

                    Comments about Escort Passport Max2:

The concept for the product is great, but it is poorly designed. When parked in the sunlight, the unit has overheated and turned itself off shortly after starting a drive. The screen at full brightness is not readable in the California Sun. I don't like being annoyed with Red Light Camera alerts when on the Freeway. The escort live app has great potential but the Waze app is so much better. There aren't enough Escort users to provide good data outside of California or in rural areas. I find myself wanting the Escort data combined with the Waze application. Additionally, for all the money this costs, a subscription to updating a database that isn't as good as the real time data from Waze, turns me off. Lastly, My Garmin and other products download their updates via the Bluetooth connection with the phone. Having to remove the detector from the car, connect it to a computer is bothersome, and shouldn't be required.
