    AutoWeek, Roger Hart - 11.08.10
"The PASSPORT iQ is a game changer"

    Radar Signals, Carl Fors
"SML was asked by Escort Inc. to field evaluate its new iQ combination GPS and Radar/Laser Detection system. The product features a system where the driver can mark (M) safety locations such as school zones, work zones, dangerous intersections. Since the product has GPS, it alerts the driver when they approach these locations in the future. The iQ also features an upgradable system of identifying to drivers the location of photo enforcement such as red light cameras and speed cameras. This is the first time since the introduction of the first radar detector in 1972, FuzzBuster, that a GPS and radar/laser detection system has been offered in one package. SML compared the accuracy of the GPS of the iQ to other commercially available stand alone GPS systems. It found them to be the same in capabilities and accuracy. Unique to the iQ, is the display of the speed limit to the driver. An Over Speed Alert can be activated telling the driver they are over the speed limit. Other common GPS features are present in the iQ and SML views it as contributing to driver safety."

    Escort Radar Forum, Allen
"800 miles with the Passport iQ vs. Garmin® 255W - Navigation: iQ wins this hands-down. There are alot of reasons, but mainly the amount of warning it gives you BEFORE your next turn is amazing. You would have to be asleep to not hear the next turn coming up."

What is included with the PASSPORT iQ?
The PASSPORT iQ comes complete with a SmartCord®, USB cable, iQ Mounting Bracket (will mount to either the windshield or to our optional dash Beanbag), Owner's Manual on CD and Quick/Reference Guide, 90 day trial for Defender® Database, one year warranty and 30 day money back trial period.

    What is AutoLearn?
Autolearn uses the GPS feature to identify sources of false radar and memorizes location and frequency of each radar signal. Our AutoLearn software then compares signals received over time and eliminates audio alerts for non-police sources. The display will identify that a signal is present but no audio alert will be sounded. If a new source of radar or laser appears in the area you will receive a full audio and visual alert.

Will AutoLearn block out true police signals?
No. The sophisticated software will prevent automatically blocking out true police signals.

    What is the Defender database?
Defender is a database of North American red light and fixed speed camera locations that can be updated weekly from our site. After the 90 day trial period a subscription is required to keep the Passport's Defender database current.

What is the USB port for?
The PASSPORT iQ is web ready and the USB port can connect to a PC for software downloads and Defender updates.

Is it the most sensitive model available? vs. Redline, vs. X50, vs. iQ
The Redline is the most sensitive dash model available on the market but it does not have the GPS features of the PASSPORT iQ. The Passport 8500 X50 Black and the Passport9500ix have similar radar and laser performance. The PASSPORT iQ combines radar/laser detection and a full GPS navigation system in one convenient model.

    What is Variable Speed Sensitivity?
We recognize if you are driving at slower rates of speed that you do not need full sensitivity. The PASSPORT iQ is able to increase sensitivity as your traveling speed increases.

    Can it be used overseas?
We do not monitor frequencies used overseas, but many customers travel abroad with their Passport.

How do you block a false alert?
To lockout a false alert, (X, K or Laser only) press the mute button three (3) times, (either on the detector or the SmartCord®) during the alert. Pressing the mute button the first time will silence the audio. Pressing it a second time will generate a prompt on the display that will read: "Lockout?" Press it a third time to confirm that you want to lock this signal out by location and frequency.

    Where are they illegal?
Radar detectors are completely legal to use in non-commercial vehicles in 49 states. Virginia and Washington D.C. are the only places in the United States that currently ban radar detectors. Radar detector use in commercial vehicles has been prohibited in the U.S. since 1995 and radar detectors are also illegal in most Canadian provinces. We do not track detector regulations in other countries.

    Do you pay for tickets?
Escort Inc. does not condone breaking posted speed limits and has never offered to reimburse speeding citations issued when using our products.

    What is the warranty period?
All our products ordered factory direct come with a full one-year factory warranty.

Why do I have to pay for updates?
Due to the increasing use of red light and fixed speed cameras in the US, the locations and operation status of these devices change all the time. This database is collected from a number of sources. There is a very small annual charge for customers that want to keep the Defender database current for camera threats.

What is the Defender Database memory capability in the PASSPORT iQ? Will it run out of space?
The PASSPORT iQ has more than enough memory to hold all your locations as well as the camera locations used in the US.
